Juried Submission Guidelines

You spoke and we listened.

In response to participant feedback, Writers at Work placement process for the 2008 conference has been changed to a juried system. Our intention is that this shift will only improve the overall experience, allowing workshop faculty to hone in on a specific program with a focused body of students.

For those just beginning to delve into their craft, we have created a concurrent conference program in partnership with the University of Utah Lifelong Learning to provide three non-juried classes.

Like all juried processes, ours involves submitting a sample of your writing for admission to the class of your choice. Workshops are manuscript-based, and our new format will provide each participant's work with the maximum attention from both class and faculty.

We know the juried process might be intimidating at first, however, we urge you to take a chance and submit your work for the selection process. You are probably ready if you have been living the writer's life for a while or if you have previously taken a writing class or workshop. The process is a welcoming, not an exclusionary experience. We urge all writers, both old hands and budding wordsmiths, to submit work for selection.

Workshops will fill up fast and are limited to thirteen participants. We urge you to submit early for the best chance of getting into the workshop of your choice. The jury process will be on a first come first serve basis. Deadline for registration is May 15th.

We are excited to move into this new era of Writers at Work. Keep watching for more changes.
