For the past few months, the Writers @ Work board has been working through the status of our organization and coming to some very difficult financial decisions. It is with great regret that, after 34 years as an organization, we have made the decision to close our doors. We have not come to this decision lightly, but due to financial challenges that we haven’t been able to adequately resolve, we do not see a way to go forward. For over three decades we have made a difference in the lives of many writers as we have promoted and supported the creative writing community. We want to thank everyone for their support.
We thank our board, past and present, for their dedication and service. We are grateful that so many have donated their time and talent over the years. We are also grateful for every individual and organization who has supported us monetarily. We are grateful to all the faculty, writers, editors, and agents who mentored, taught, and were a part of our programs over the years and for all of our community partners. We also want to thank those that attended our programs and helped make up the amazing community of which we are proud to be a part.
We also hope that you will join the board in recognizing the hard work and attention to detail that Jennifer Atwood has put in over the last few years as our Program Administrator. Without her, we simply wouldn’t have been able to function.
We are thankful to those who began this organization in 1984 and saw the vision of it potential. We have had a great run and we believe that our community partners and sister organizations in our community will continue to support our local writers in the years to come.
