The Poetry Walkabout Workshop: Inspiring, Compiling, and Revising Community Poems.

Star Coulbrooke_workshop photo croppedJoin Logan City Poet Laureate, Star Coulbrooke, in a poetry walkabout on April 14, 2018 from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm in Ogden, UT. $75 fee includes lunch. The walkabouts inspire individual poems from participants who write on-the-spot and read their drafts to the group. Star collects the writings, gleans words and/or lines, and combines them to create a collaborative community poem to read to the Logan City Council each August during her five-year term. This workshop will first follow the format of a poetry walkabout and then guide participants to compile and revise a collaborative community poem from their individual contributions.

Star’s poems are published internationally in literary journals, magazines, and anthologies. She co-authored a chapbook, Logan Canyon Blend (Blue Scarab Press, 2003), with Kenneth W. Brewer, the late former poet laureate of Utah. Her chapbook, Walking the Bear (Outlaw Artists Press 2011), is a tribute to the Bear River and is available online at the University of Utah’s Marriott Library. Her most recent poetry collection, Thin Spines of Memory, was released in 2017 from Helicon West Press.

Star is co-founder and coordinator of Helicon West, a bi-monthly open reading series that publishes community broadsides featuring poetry, prose, and visual arts. The series released its first collection of prose and poetry, The Helicon West Anthology, A Ten-Year Celebration of Featured Readers, in 2016. Star also founded and coordinates Poetry at Three, a local writing group in its twenty-fifth year. Poetry at Three gives annual Poetry Month readings for which they have released a sampler-collection of new work almost every year since 2000.
